If Pigs Could Fly
If the Senators, or your team, if you're not a Sens fan, could get any player in the NHL, who would you want? I would want a really strong centreman, and since this is pure fantasy, a gritty winger who can also put the puck in the net. Yes, the Sens are already very talented, but they're not a deep team. Anyway, here's my wishlist:
1 - Joe Thornton.....strength, a great playmaker, all-round offensive skills and a leader. Can you imagine a line with Thornton and Alfie, and another line with Spezza and Heatley. If your an opponent, who does your checking line play against?
2 - Alexander Ovechkin
3 - Jarome Iginla
4 - Vincent Lecavalier....tell me that fight between him and Iggy in the finals, last NHL season, wasn't something special
5 - Eric Staal
6 - Brendan Shanahan....an older player, but he's proven that he can still bring it
I know, I know, this will never happen, no team would be dumb enough to give up a star player. Oh, but wait a second, Boston already did, so I will continue to dream the impossible dream.

If we could have anybody then here are my votes....
1) Iginla - What more can be said
2) Bertuzzi - Power forward we always lacked
3) Jokin - Plays anywhere, tough and on a good team like the sens would probably be one of the top scorers in the league
4) One of San Jose's backup goaltenders. Let's face it Hasek will be with us at most one more year and Emery is not going to be a starter. Might as well pick up one of these goalies now and when Hasek does leave, the new guy is our starter (like Kiper in Calgary).
5) Jason Allison - If we can't get Jokin, Allison would give us the power forward type player we lack.
6) Tyson Nash or Mike Ricchi just to have someone who can complement Mike Fisher who will play hard and get under the other teams skins and draw penalities.
In order to get some of these players we would have to get rid of some people. So as long as it doesn't involve the following players then I would make the trade. Untouchables:
Mike Fisher
Mesarjos
Spezza
Heatley
Alfie
Hasek
Eaves

In terms of players that we may be able to get, here's my list:
1) Jokinen....he would certainly fill our needs, and he's probably wouldn't be just a "rental".
2) Mark Recchi.....as I may have said earlier, he definitely will not be a minus player in Ottawa, and he's versatile.
3)Tyler Arnason....a good playmaker, and a plus player, on a pretty bad team
4) Gary Roberts....lots of injuries lately, but exactly the type of player that Ottawa needs...but then again Jokinen delivers the same, or similiar skills, and he's younger. Roberts also would most be just a rental.
5) Matthew Barnaby....he has half decent offensive skill, and he definitely has toughness.....but would only be a 4th or 3rd line player, at best
Obviously, my number one is head and shoulders above the rest.
